TeleSym has ported its mobile VoIP software to the Symbol MC50 enterprise digital assistant. SymPhone incorporates both patent-pending call quality technology and RSA security features, extending the enterprise PBX to mobile workers, according to TeleSym.

Introduced in October 2004, the MC50 is a rugged PDA-form-factor device running Windows Mobile 2003 SE on an Intel XScale processor. The device is designed for in-facility real-time communication, data capture, and VoIP telephony, "enabling decision making at the point of activity," according to Symbol.

TeleSym describes SymPhone as a third generation mobile IP telephony package for PCs and Windows Mobile-based devices that allows users to make and receive secure calls over a corporate wired/wireless LAN or via the Internet. TeleSym says SymPhone complements the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) infrastructure from a wide range of manufacturers and telecommunications suppliers with new provisions for security, standards support, and interoperability.
