(Click here for larger image of the CN30 with detachable keyboard modules)The CN30 features a 640x480 full-VGA display that is touted as suitable for applications ranging from legacy terminal emulation to web browsing. The screen operates in either portrait or landscape orientation.
Keypad modules attach to the core computing module by means of a secure backside latch. Once attached, the CN30 performs as a one-piece unit, surviving rough handling and exposure to dirt and moisture, according to Intermec. Available keypads include a 14-key unit that supports PDA-like functionality, a 56-key full alphanumeric model, and a universal pistol-grip handle with trigger for scanning.
The device's EV15 linear imager includes Active Pixel Sensor (APS) technology, which Intermec claims is more reliable than conventional laser scanning. The result is the "snappiest and most dependable" bar code scanning available, according to Intermec.
High performance and secure wireless communications are supported through a Wi-Fi certified radio, support for 802.1x standards and compatibility with Cisco networks, according to the company. Voice communication is available through the built-in speaker and microphone, headset jack, or via a Bluetooth-enabled headset.
The CN30 is expected to be available in the third quarter. Pricing has not been announced.
