Motorola's enterprise mobility business unit (formerly Symbol Technologies) has added CDMA-EVDO wireless support to its line of MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA). The new EVDO capability complements the existing GSM/EDGE version for expanded reach, according to Motorola.

The rugged MC70 runs Windows Mobile 5.0, boasts a 3.5-inch QVGA color touchscreen, and is available with either QWERTY or numeric keypads. The unit offers 802.11a/b/g WiFi and Bluetooth Class II in addition to quad-band GSM/GPRS and CDMA/EVDO compatibility.

High-speed 3G EVDO networks based on the CDMA wireless communications standard
offer robust and cost-effective voice and data connectivity through Sprint and other wireless carriers, according to Motorola.

According to Bob Chen, VP/GM of mobile computing for Motorola's enterprise mobility business, "The MC70 is ideal for mobile professionals who are not working at a desk or stationary location and need real-time access to people and information while they are on the move. The new MC70 with CDMA-EVDO compatibility complements the existing GSM/EDGE version providing a rugged enterprise tool to meet the needs of global customers."

Motorola says the MC70 with EVDO functionality has a list price ranging from $2845 to $3195, depending on configuration, and is available immediately.
