        Rugged, compact handheld runs Windows CE

        Psion Teklogix has added a compact, numeric keypad version to its Windows CE based Workabout Pro line of rugged handheld computers. The Workabout Pro S offers the same customization capabilities, expansion, task-specific ergonomics, and radio and data input options as the Pro C, but in a more compact and lightweight...

        The Pro S offers a range of simultaneously supported radio options including cellular (GSM/GPRS, CDMA), Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi (802.11b). It is powered by a 400MHz Intel XScale processor equipped with 128MB of RAM and 64MB of Flash memory, sports a 3.5-inch full-color QVGA touchscreen, and is rated for rugged environments.

        Psion lists the following key features and specifications of the Workabout Pro S:
        • Processor -- 400 MHz Intel XScale

        • Display:
          • 3.5-inch, 65K-color, portrait mode QVGA (240x320) LCD touchscreen
          • Adjustable LED backlight
          • Sunlight-readable, for outdoor use
        • Expansion:
          • SD/MMC memory card slot (user-accessible)
          • Type II CompactFlash slot (accessible through end-cap)
          • 100-pin expansion connector (accessible through end-cap or back cover); supports serial, USB, PCMCIA
          • Optional Type II PCMCIA slot (user-upgradeable)
        • Wireless:
          • Integrated Bluetooth class II, ver 1.1
          • 802.11b (via CompactFlash)
          • GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1xRTT (via expansion interface)
          • All three wireless ports can operate simultaneously
        • Barcode options:
          • 2D Imager expansion module
          • 1D SE 1223 High Performance laser scanner expansion module
          • Pistol Grip
        • Environmental:
          • Rain/dust -- IP54
          • Shock -- survives repeated 4-ft drops to polished concrete
        • Size -- 7.5 x 3.8 x 1.1 inches

        The Workabout Pro S is slated to be available in February, 2005 in North America, Europe, and Asia.
