Symbol Technologies has expanded its MC3000 line of Windows CE-based rugged handhelds. The new MC3090 features a pistol-grip form-factor and runs Windows CE 5.0. The new configuration offers customers increased flexibility and versatility to choose the form factor most appropriate to a specific application, according...

        to the company.

Like its predecessors, the MC3090 features a 320 x 320 display, 30 percent larger than the typical QVGA (240 x 320) display. Scanning options include a 1D laser scanner that mounts on top of the unit, or an integrated 2D CCD imager. The optional top-mounted laser scanner rotates to adjust scanning orientation for increased comfort, as shown at the right.

Symbol says the MC3090 line can be equipped with a Mobility Services Platform (MSP) agent that collects and monitors device performance information and then delivers status in real-time to a centralized MSP management console. MSP supports rapid deployment of new devices, manages software upgrades and fixes, and provides remote user support and diagnostics, according to the company.
