Acrosser has introduced a compact, fanless computer aimed at the harsh environments found in trucks, taxis, and other vehicular applications. The AR-ES0831FL runs Windows XP Embedded on Pentium and Celeron M processors, and meets IEC-68-2-6 vibration and IEC-68-2-27 shock standards, according to the...

The company notes that the AR-ES0831FL includes an anti-shock 2.5-inch drive mounting bracket, which protects a disk drive against vibration. For even more robustness, however, the system can utilize CompactFlash cards installed in the integral CF Type II slot.

Another key feature of the device for vehicular applications, according to Acrosser, is its built-in DC power supply, which accepts input voltages from 9 to 32 VDC and protects against voltage spikes. The system also provides an "OS shut down delay" function claimed to ensure that the system is powered down properly.

Additionally, heat-pipe technology enables the AR-ES0831FL to run without a fan and the motherboard is equipped with a completely sealed, dust-proof enclosure, Acrosser said.

Key specifications, as listed by the company, include:
        • Processor -- Intel Pentium M and Celeron M, clock speeds not specified; Intel 852GM and ICH4 chipsets
        • Memory -- 200-pin SODIMM socket; comes with 512 MB DDR333 SODIMM preinstalled
