DT Research has announced a tablet computer for fixed mounting in forklifts, boats, or emergency vehicles. The WebDT 520 has a twelve-inch touchscreen display, a 120GB hard drive or up to 64GB of solid-state storage, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth, and optional UPS battery, the company says.

The WebDT 520 complies with MIL-STD-810F standards for shock and vibration protection, and offers the IP 65 level of water and dust resistance. It also offers a fanless design and an optional battery pack, which is not intended to operate the device for an extended period, but acts as a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).

Sporting a trio of antennas in our picture, the WebDT 520 includes 802.11a/b/g wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.0, while a GPS receiver and 3G/GSM cellular module are also available. Wired interfaces include a gigabit Ethernet port, a serial port, and four USB ports, plus a microphone input and headphone output.

The tablet has a 12.1-inch display offered in standard and "outdoor viewable" versions, plus nine programmable buttons. A 1GHz AMD Sempron CPU is joined by an unspecified amount of RAM. Meanwhile, mass storage can be either a 120GB hard drive, or an SSD (solid-state disk) in 32GB and 64GB capacities. The unit also has both PC Card and ExpressCard slots.

The VESA-compliant WebDT 520 can be mounted to a wall, ceiling, or vehicle. Optional accessories include the U-bracket shown above -- which doubles as a desktop stand or ceiling mount -- and a waterproof, backlit keyboard (right) that includes an integral pointing device.

Features and specifications listed by DT Research for the WebDT 520 include:
