        Ruggedized "mobile clients" run Windows XP Embedded

        UK-based Xeratus Technology has partnered with Twinhead Corp. to offer "embedded" versions of Twinhead's ruggedized Durabook laptops running Windows XP Embedded.         The ThinBook D series devices boast a magnesium alloy case and shock-absorption LCD screen that are said to comply with MIL-STD-810F, Method 516.5, Procedure IV and MIL-STD-810F, Method 514.5, Procedure I specifications, making device "one of the toughest laptops on the market and allowing safe drops where normal laptops would find it difficult to survive," Xeratus states. Additionally, the unit's spill-resistant keyboard and touchpad are said to satisfy MIL-STD 810F 506.4 Procedure II and IP54 class protection standards.

        Key hardware specifications, as listed by the company, include:

        "The ThinBook D Series does not represent the cheapest mobile thin client on the market, but you really do get what you pay for with Durabook technology," Xeratus CEO Jay Savoor said.

        The ThinBook D Series devices appear to be available immediately. Pricing was not disclosed.
