Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC) has licensed IP (intellectual property) from Arasan Chip Systems for a custom SD host chip that will tape out soon, it says. Arasan's Standard SD Host IP is available as an HDK (hardware development kit) supporting Microsoft Windows CE 5.0, Windows 2K, and XP SP2.

Arasan's HDK includes a PCI card with the SD host IP implemented in an Altera Apex 20K200 FPGA. The HDK also includes BSquare drivers for Windows CE 4.2.

Arasan is an executive member of the SD Association (SDA), and participates in SDA interoperability sessions. It says its Standard SD Host IP supports MMC ver. 3.31, SD Memory Card ver. 1.01, and SDIO Card ver. 1.10, and is compliant with the Standard SD Host Controller Specifications ver. 1.00. Multi-slot support and security features (CPRM) are available as options.

Arason also offers IP for MMC 4.0, PCI/Cardbus, and USB 1.0 and 2.0.
