        SDIO 1.20 chip IP supports 200 Mbps data rates

        The latest SDIO device-controller IP (intellectual property, for building semiconductor devices) from Arasan Chip Systems supports Version 1.20 of the SDIO specificiation for postage-stamp-sized SD memory expansion cards, which are being built into a wide range of new digital products such as mobile phones, PDAs, multimedia players, and digital cameras.




        The IP supports 50 MHz operation, enabling maximum throughput of 200 Mbps in the SD-4 bit mode of the SDIO standard. It also supports an extended voltage range of 1.8V which the company said makes it suitable for mobile phone applications. The IP is available with AHB, APB, and a 8/16-bit GPIO interface.

        In addition to the SDIO IP, Arasan says it provides "complete SDIO solutions" including hardware development kits, sample drivers for Windows CE and Palm OS, an SDIO Linux Stack, and production testers.

        The new version of the companys SDIO IP is already being delivered as an upgrade to existing licensees such as Intel, Broadcom, Philips, Motorola, and it will now be issued as the standard product to new licensees.

        Arasan says it has already delivered its new SDIO IP to existing licensees that include Intel, Broadcom, Philips, Motorola. The IP is now available as standard product to new licensees, it says.
