iGolf Technologies today announced the addition a new SD card GPS receiver which is said to support all Pocket PC devices having an SDIO expansion slot. The SD GPS receiver will be packaged and sold with two GPS software applications, iGolfgps and Mapopolis, the company said.

"Until recently, a universal GPS solution was not possible due to the rapidly changing size and functionality caused by technological advancements in handheld design," said iGolf in a statement. "The SD GPS receiver provides universal functionality by using the SDIO slot, which is fast becoming the standard choice among [Pocket PCs]."

Mapopolis provides navigation and driving directions for a specific region. The program provides a detailed map of a selected region, maps of the national highways, door-to-door driving directions, streets with addresses, cities, water features, landmarks, and GPS support.

iGolfgps provides golfers with distance measurements to the front, center and back of the green. The program allows users to select four customizable locations, measures drive distance from the tee, and includes an optional scorecard for up to four players.

iGolf's "universal" SD GPS receiver and associated software support both Pocket PC and Palm OS based handhelds having SDIO slots. The SD GPS package is currently available for pre-order, with shipments planned by the end of October, 2003. A limited supply is available for immediate shipment. The package is priced at $349, with an introductory price of $299.
