Xten Networks Inc. announced a new SIP User Agent which offers "softphone" capabilities on wireless PocketPC and Windows CE based devices (as well as Windows PCs). X-PRO can reportedly be used to make free IP-to-IP calls using a service such as pulver.com's Free World Dialup, and IP-to-phone calls using a pre-paid calling service such as...

        deltathree's iConnectHere, the company said.

Xten said it has also released a feature-rich free softphone dubbed X-Lite, which lacks some of X-PRO's "premium" features such as conferencing and multi-proxy, but still provides the same level of call quality. Both X-PRO and X-Lite are said to be fully compatible with other SIP User Agents, such as Cisco 7900 Series IP Phones and ATA 186 Analog Telephone Adapters.

X-PRO is offered as a standalone product or packaged with a SIP Proxy Server. "X-PRO, which retails for $49, has all the features and functionality of a small business phone system, meaning that a growing company could use X-PRO in place of a traditional PBX. X-PRO can also be branded and customized for distribution," the company said.
