        SIP softphone software supports Pocket PC based devices

        Inter-tel announced softphone software for VoIP communications using Pocket PCs connected to 802.11 wireless networks. Inter-tel says its use of Global IP Sound (GIPS) VoiceEngine and SoundWare modules enhances the voice quality of the softphone and counters the inherent reliability problems of voice communications over 802.11...

        Summary of Inter-tel 8601 SIP SoftPhone features:
        • Allows users to access system features such as transfer, conference, hold and forward calls
        • Enables users to retrieve voice mail messages, activate Do-Not-Disturb (DND) and select varying ring tones
        • Provides a filterable call log
        • Message waiting button alerts users if theyve missed important calls
        • Integrates with the PDA's contact list
        • Allows users to dial from their Microsoft Outlook contact lists
        • Provides a variety of stylish user interfaces
        • Displays time/date
        • Includes headset support
        • Provides voice compression; GIPS vocoder
        • Supports Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or static IP addressing
        Pocket PC PDAs currently supported by Inter-tel's 8601 SIP SoftPhone include: Compaq iPAQ H3970, Compaq iPAQ H3875, Dell Axim X5, Hewlett Packard iPAQ H5550, and Hewlett Packard iPAQ H5450.
