Microsoft has just released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 redistributable. The redistributable is required to run .NET Compact Framework applications on Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition, Smartphone, and other Windows CE powered devices.

According to Microsoft, new features in the SP1 release include:
        • Support for Windows CE 4.2 in both the CAB installation and a Platform Builder Update
        • Support for headless Windows CE 5.0 devices by adding a Headless catalog item in Platform Builder
        • Device debugging using mdbg
        • LogViewer tools to monitor network traffic
        • .NET Compact Framework Remote Performance Monitor
In addition, the download page lists close to 30 bug fixes.

Microsoft says the redistributable also supports applications developed for .NET CF 1.0 and service pack releases prior to .NET CF 2.0. It supports devices running Windows Mobile Software for Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 for PocketPC and Smartphone, Windows CE 5.0, and higher.

The 37.1 MB file is available for download from MIcrosoft's website, here.
