Slingbox rear viewThe heart of Sling Media's remote content delivery system is the intriguingly shaped Slingbox, a set-top box (STB) that translates video signals into a proprietary IPTV format and distributes it over a home network or the Internet. The resulting video stream can be viewed on PCs or Internet-enabled mobile handhelds equipped with the company's SlingPlayer software. According to the company, the SlingPlayer client software allows users to switch video inputs among a cable box, satellite receiver, DVR, or DVD player, and exercise "complete control" over all video sources.
A beta version of SlingPlayer Mobile that supports Windows Mobile devices is now available for free download to registered Slingbox users
here, according to the company. Beginning April 26th, SlingPlayer Mobile will be available for $30 with a 30-day free trial. The Slingbox itself is available from the company's
online store. Users who register a Slingbox before April 26 will receive a free license for SlingPlayer Mobile, according to the company.
