The resulting video stream can be viewed on PCs or Internet-enabled mobile handhelds equipped with SlingPlayer Mobile software. According to the company, the SlingPlayer client software allows users to switch video inputs among a cable box, satellite receiver, DVR, or DVD player, and exercise "complete control" over all video sources.
"The Slingbox has created a whole new phenomenon in television viewing," said Sling Media CEO and co-founder Blake Krikorian. "With SlingPlayer Mobile, we continue to make it easier to extend your living room TV experience to wherever you happen to be and ensure that you never miss that pivotal play or big news event and that you always know the score."
Registered Slingbox owners can download the SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Smartphone software
here. Following the public beta period, SlingPlayer Mobile will be available for $30 including a free 30-day trial. Sling points out that there are no monthly or recurring charges for the use of the software. Users simply need a network connection that can be 3G cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB.
