By "messaging phone," we're referring to a non-touchscreen device running the Windows Mobile Standard operating system. Such phones, typified by Samsung's original
Blackjack, and continuing on with the SGH-i617
BlackJack II shown at right, target email-centric users who might otherwise have adopted a RIM BlackBerry, and are reportedly among the best-selling Windows Mobile devices.
In May, AT&T announced the Samsung
SGH-i637 "Jack," a BlackJack II successor that added WiFi and now sports a 3.2 megapixel camera. U.S. Cellular's new Code i220, also Samsung-manufactured, appears similar in intent, but is a more basic device, with more squared-off styling.
Like the previous Samsung messaging phones mentioned above, the Code has a QWERTY keyboard, a centrally mounted jog wheel, and a non-touchscreen display with 320 x 240 pixel resolution. According to U.S. Cellular, the device has a two megapixel camera.
U.S. Cellular doesn't specify WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity for the Code. Meanwhile, the device is designed for use on the carrier's 800/1900MHz CDMA network, and is said to be compatible with EV-DO Rev. 0 technology.
Offering Internet Explorer Mobile and Office Mobile software, the Code includes 128MB of RAM and 128MB of flash, and supports up to 32GB of removable memory (slot type unspecified). U.S. Cellular says the device's 1440mAh battery gives it up to six hours of talk time, and up to 12.5 days of standby.

Another Windows messaging phone will soon be released by Verizon, according to
The Boy Genius Report, which unearthed complete details and published them early today. The HTC Ozone appears to be yet another iteration of the version of the

The device, designed to use Verizon's quad-band GSM/GRPS/EDGE network, also includes GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth, according to the documents reproduced by
The Boy Genius Report.
