Flash memory pioneer SanDisk has created an innovative memory card packaging technology that enables memory cards to plug into both SD card slots and USB ports. The company debuted the new combo SD/USB cards at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.

The new approach eliminates the need to use SD-to-USB adapters when accessing the contents of an SD card on a laptop, PC, or other system that lacks an integrated SD card slot. The combo card's USB interface supports USB 2.0.

SanDisk said in a recent announcement that it expects to introduce cards based on the technology during Q1, 2005, in capacities as high as one gigabyte.
