It is said to offer Datalogic's patented "green spot" technology, to provide operators with superior feedback about the exact location of their scan.
The case features front and back rubber bumpers that enable it to withstand drops from 5 feet onto concrete floors. It also is sealed, for water and dust resistance that meets the IP64 standard. In addition, Datalogic cites an operating temperature of -10 to 50 degrees C (14 to 122 degrees F), which is, of course, beyond what most users would be expected to tolerate.
Computing power is provided by an Intel PXA270 embedded processor, clocked at either 312 or 520 MHz. The device is available with 64 or 128 MB of RAM, and its 128 MB of flash memory can be expanded via a miniSD slot.
Available accessories include cradles that can store and charge single or multiple Skorpio Guns, as well as multiple battery chargers. Internal Bluetooth and WiFi modules are also offered.

According to Datalogic, a wide variety of software is supplied, including a Windows CE software development kit (SDK), a "DL-Locked-Web-Browser" application that runs via Internet Explorer, and a "DL-TCL-NET" terminal emulator. Wavelink Avalanche software is said to give administrators the ability to revise configurations, synchronize software, and update firmware and drivers remotely.
The Skorpio Gun appears to be available now, but no pricing information was disclosed.
