(Click here for a larger image of the Orb Media TV menu)According to Orb Networks, the subscription-based service is based on a "robust and scalable" Orb Architecture that determines the best format, codec, bit rate, display capabilities, and network bandwidth available for a particular cell phone, PDA or laptop to view or hear the selected content. The media is streamed securely and directly from a broadband-connected home PC to the mobile device.
The service uses a web browser on the mobile device to establish a connection to the user's "personal media portal," and, from there, to the home PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition. Subscriptions start at $10 per month, or $80 per year, for the first user. The Orb Media software is available as a free download from the company's
