CinemaNow and MediaPass have launched what are being called the first online services to make music videos available for download and viewing on devices running Microsoft's Windows Mobile software. The capability, which supports Portable Media Centers, Pocket PCs, and select smartphones, marks a "major shift" for record labels, according to CinemaNow.

CinemaNow is introducing WatchMusicHere.com, which offers music videos from labels such as Warner Music Group and TVT Records. The music videos will be made available in multiple formats that can be played on Windows Mobile based "secure" devices including Portable Media Centers, Pocket PCs, and select Smartphones, as well as on traditional PCs and laptops, according to CinemaNow.

Users of CinemaNow's service will be able to download the appropriate format on their PCs, and then transfer the file to the secure device using Windows Media Player 10. The company says it expects its catalogue of music videos to expand from the current 75 titles to more than 1,500 during the next year, and that it plans to charge between $1.99 and $2.99 for a permanent copy of each music video.

MediaPass Network LLC is also launching a new music video download service aimed at devices running Windows Mobile. The service allows MediaPass Music subscribers to download free music videos via a 90-day trial subscription, and receive a 30-day license to download videos to load onto devices powered by Windows Mobile technology.

Content from both services is meant for use with PlaysForSure-compliant devices. Users download the content to a Windows XP based PC, and from there transfer it to a Windows Mobile based Portable Media Center or to a Smartphone or Pocket PC equipped with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.
