        Signal processing conference features Microsoft video compression talk

        "Pervasive Signal Processing" is the theme of the GSPx 2005 conference, coming up October 24–27 in Santa Clara, Calif. GSPx will cover the latest technologies in video compression, wireless communications, multi-core/multiprocessors, SAR (synthetic aperture radar) image exploitation, and more, with tutorials, technical workshops, technology panels, white paper presentations, exhibits and a new...


        product forum. The conference targets design engineers and senior-level executives responsible for the development of embedded technologies and products.

        The keynote speech will be given by Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi, co-founder of Qualcomm. Tutorials will cover VC-1, H.264, and SVC. Wireless sessions will adddress WiMax, MIMO, UWB, Zigbee, Bluetooth

        In the video compression track, Dr. Sridhar Srinivasan, development leader of Microsoft's Windows Media Codecs Group, will lead a four-module tutorial on the VC-1 bitstream format at the conference. The topics are:
        • Introduction to VC-1
        • Implementation of the VC-1 decoder
        • Getting the most out of the VC-1 format (implementation of encoder)
        • VC-1 systems
        "Video compression technology is evolving at a rapid pace," said Dr. Amnon Aliphas, conference chair of this, the third GSPx conference. "GSPx 2005 will provide attendees with direct insight into this field and help position them to win in the new marketplaces being created."
