Greenlight Wireless has announced version 2.0, of its wireless Web browsing application for mobile device users. Skweezer, which supports Windows Mobile powered PDAs and smartphones, is a service that is intended to make browsing the Web on a handheld device faster, easier, better, and cheaper.

According to Greenlight, Skweezer 2.0 reformats Web pages in a way that makes them easier to view and navigate on a device with a small screen, while at the same time reducing and compressing the data that's being downloaded. Skweezer optimizes Web content before it's sent to the device, thus speeding transfers and reducing wireless data charges from the service provider.

Skweezer 2.0 is said to include many new features, most notably the ability to work on cell phones with xHTML browsers. Skweezer has also been updated for use on the new Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and Windows Mobile SmartPhone Edition operating systems (and also on a number of Palm OS devices). Additionally, Greenlight says that Skweezer's Web content compression process has been significantly improved. Skweezer 2.0 also adds a more streamlined user interface as well as the capability to import favorites from a desktop computer.

Skweezer 2.0 is a subscription-based service and can be purchased online for $14.99, which includes a no-obligation 30-day trial period and a full year of service.
