Wyse Technology has announced a new generation of "sleek, compact, high-performance" thin-client devices based on low power AMD and Transmeta x86-architecture embedded processors. The new "S class" and "V class" Winterm thin clients which will initially run Windows CE as their embedded software platform.

According to Wyse, the devies' low-power embedded processors, allows them to deliver excellent processing performance without generating lots of heat, thereby enabling fanless operation. Fast, integrated video chipsets provide excellent video performance that reduces eyestrain and meets stringent government and European resolution and clinical healthcare requirements, Wyse says. Additionally, a patented, "monorail mounting system" allows the units to be attached to walls, desks, or LCD monitors.

The S class thin clients (shown above) are based on AMD Geode GX processors. The first S class devices will be available next month, and will initially run Windows CE. An even larger photo (with monitor and keyboard for size reference) is here.

The Winterm V class thin clients (shown at right) feature Transmeta's Crusoe processors. These devices take advantage of Crusoe benefits such as low power consumption and LongRun technology to optimize speed, according to Wyse. With processor clock rates from 800 Mhz to 1.1 GHz, excellent video performance, and a wide range of memory and expansion options, the V class thin clients are aimed at demanding enterprise deployments in the mid- and upper-range, Wyse says. The first V class thin clients are expected to ship before the end of the year. An even larger photo (with monitor and keyboard for size reference) is here.
