        Smart watches -- a good idea whose time hasn't come?

        Rob Pegoraro tries on a Suunto n3 Smart Watch for size, and shares his impressions in this entertaining Washington Post TechNews column. Unfortunately, after three weeks of wearing one, Pegoraro isn't at all certain that Smart Watches are a smart idea.




        Says Pegoraro: "The n3, like four other, cheaper Smart Watch models, does so much more. Using an internal FM receiver, it pulls down headlines, stock quotes, my schedule, instant messages and more, then displays all this data on a sharp, 11/4-inch diameter LCD. And I couldn't stand it."

        Are Smart Watches simply suffering a few minor startup problems? Or are they doomed to infant mortality, like Smart Displays before them? Time will only tell. In the mean time, Pegoraro's column offers an interesting bit of insight into what it's like to use one of the brainy timepieces.
