McAfee and Good Technology have collaborated to enable live, over-the-air distribution of McAfee's VirusScan Mobile for handheld devices using Good's Secure OTA technology. VirusScan Mobile will now be available as a "partner application" for over-the-air distribution via the GoodLink Management Console, according to the companies.

McAfee says that VirusScan Mobile provides advanced scanning, detection, and cleaning of handheld device data to prevent corruption due to viruses, worms, dialers, Trojans, and other malicious code. The software protects Windows Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 devices against threats that originate from email, instant messaging, and Internet downloads, and protects multiple entry points including SMS, MMS, and Bluetooth, according to the company.

Using a combination of Good's Secure OTA application management technology and Good Mobile Defense, IT managers will be able to automatically and conveniently push out and enforce VirusScan Mobile on handhelds, according to Good.

"As mobile devices become an important repository for corporate data as well as a growing point of Internet and network connectivity, they require the same level of protection that's now become a standard for laptops and desktops," said McAfee senior product manager Drew Carter."
