Prevalent Devices has introduced an update to its soft keyboard for Windows Mobile PDAs and smartphones. Phraze-It Keyboard version 2.0 adds underscore for email addresses, alters certain on-screen letters for better visibility, and adds Italian to the previous slate of seven language choices, among other enhancements, according to the...

        company.

Utilizing a two-keystroke-per-letter algorithm, the downloadable Phraze-It Keyboard provides the functionality of a full computer keyboard using only fifteen large on-screen keys "for effective, accurate typing with your index fingers or holding and thumbing with the same hand directly on the screen of Windows Mobile 5 devices," the company said.

The limited size of this soft keyboard leaves ample room for text display and editing. The product's raison d'etre, according to Prevalent, is that using "a full QWERTY [keyboard] on a handheld size device with tiny keys and multiple characters is awkward and unwieldy for mobile productivity."

For details of how the Phraze-It Keyboard works and a comparison with other soft keyboard products, see our prior coverage of the earlier version of this product.

Phraze-It Keyboard 2.0 is available as a download from the company's website for $17.76. A free 10-day trial version is available here.
