Microsoft India and Cynapse India Pvt. Ltd. have collaborated to launch the Software Greenhouse website, an initiative aimed at developers wanting to create mobile and embedded applications using the latest Microsoft mobile technologies and platforms. The objective is to demonstrate the application development process for Windows Mobile-based devices, and to facilitate community participation during...
development, according to the companies.
The first project being undertaken by the Software GreenHouse community is a Bluetooth application called BlueJab, which revolves around a popular concept known as "toothing." Toothing provides a means for individuals to send anonymous messages to others in close proximity using Bluetooth wireless, according to the project overview. "BlueJab will be a cool and fun utility which takes the social networking concept to a new level, opening up a completely new way for people to meet, communicate, exchange ideas or maybe even trade," the project overview says. BlueJab is currently being developed by a core team of five Microsoft-India employees. At the end of the project, the application will be made available to the community, for those who want to build on it.
"We are testing this exercise to an extent, to see whether it would help other developers learn from the development process and things like that. It's like a demonstration house of how a product is developed, using Microsoft platforms. Since it is transparent, the name GreenHouse," said Sheila Gulati, Director of Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft India.
"Very similar to any reality show on television, this will span the entire life cycle of a 'real' world product being developed by us specifically for this purpose. This unique concept will be used as a platform for an online demonstration on how mobile and embedded applications are developed," Cynapse says, on its website.
The Software Greenhouse website hosts forums, webcasts, resource lists, downloads, and more.
