Global IP Sound announced software for suppressing the echoes inherent in hands-free operation of packet-switched, wireless LAN (e.g. 802.11x) voice communication using PDAs and other small devices. The company said its GIPS AES software is the first echo suppression technology designed specifically for PDAs and small devices where the microphone and speaker are in close proximity, enabling users to...

converse on a PDA in the same manner as with a mobile or traditional handset, without using a headset.

According to Global IP Sound, GIPS AES meets the resource constraints of small devices such as 802.11-based cordless phones, and runs on Windows OS for PCs, Pocket PC for PDAs, and TI DSPs. GIPS AES is the newest member of the company's family of echo cancellation and suppression products that target the problems of delay, jitter, packet loss, and acoustic and network echo in VoIP communications.
