Innobec Technologies has released a beta version of software that allows a Pocket PC's LCD to act as an extension of a desktop PC's display. SideWindow permits dragging applications such as picture viewers, media players, or instant messengers onto the PDA's screen, freeing up space on the main screen for "something more...

        useful," according to the company.

SideWindow supports QVGA (240x320) and VGA (480x640) resolution devices such as the Dell x50v or the Toshiba e805, in either landscape or portrait mode. Intermediate resolutions are also easily configurable, according to the company. Applications on the SideWindow can be controlled with a mouse, stylus, or fingers.

According to Innobec, all that's required to use SideWindow, the company says, is to place the PDA in its cradle, and sync it to the desktop with ActiveSync. When the device is removed from the cradle, any applications that were dragged to the PDA automatically pop back onto the desktop display.

A beta version of SideWindow Beta is available for download here. Testers who participate in the Beta program and provide feedback will receive a free copy of the final version, according to Innobec.
