The Japanese company Solidmicro announced a Windows CE 5.0-based pico projector that's little larger than a cell phone. The SD-HK800 weighs just 5.3 ounces with battery, has an integral trackpad, and projects 640 x 480 pixel images that measure up to 80 inches diagonally, the company says.

Like other Windows CE-based pico projectors -- such as the Lancerlink MPJ-104WCE, Sunview Mobile PMP, and Epoq EPP-CEP1 -- the Solidmicro SD-HK800 has an onboard processor that allows it to render PowerPoint presentations, videos, or still images stored in its internal memory or on a removable card.

According to Solidmicro, the SD-HK800 runs Windows CE 5.0 on a dual-core Telechips TCC7901, equipped with 512MB of RAM and 2GB of flash storage. We don't recall encountering this particular processor before, which is said by Telechips to have dual ARM926EJS cores clocked at 500MHz and to include a hardware video accelerator.

The SD-HK800's storage may be increased via a microSD slot that accepts up to 32GB of RAM, Solidmicro says. Supported formats for playback include video (RM/RMVB, MPG, WMV, AVI, MP4, VOB), audio (MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC), and still images (GIF, BMP, JPG, PNG), the company adds.

Thanks to its onboard Windows operating system, the SD-HK800 can also play back PowerPoint presentations and read documents in Word, Excel, and PDF formats, according to Solidmicro. Maximum resolution of the projector is said to be 640 x 480 pixels, and other specifications include a brightness rating of 30 lumens, a 200:1 contrast ratio, and image sizes ranging from seven to eight inches diagonally.

According to Solidmicro, the SD-HK800 also has an AV input that accepts video from other devices. It's said input video may be 800 x 600 pixels, which presumably gets downsized by the device before it is projected.

The SD-HK800 has a 4000mAh battery that can power it for up to 75 minutes, the company says. Other hardware features include an integral trackpad, six buttons, and a USB port.

Solidmicro says the SD-HK800 weighs just 5.3 ounces and measures 4.9 x 2.59 x 0.96 inches (124.6 x 66 x 24.6mm). Operating range is rated at -40 to 113 deg. F (-40 to 45 deg. C), which, at the lower end of the range, could make for some chilling presentations!
