Fonix Speech has released a new version of its voice recognition and text-to-speech software for Windows Mobile devices. VoiceCentral 3.0 boasts more accurate speech recognition using less CPU bandwidth, improved text-to-speech quality, and the new capability of replying to email with a speech interface, among other enhancements.

VoiceCentral is an interactive application that provides users with "hands-free, eyes-free," speech-based access to PIM (personal information management) tools. Additionally, the software provides extensive voice activated management capabilities. For example: applications can be launched or closed; the calendar and task list can be accessed by voice. The VoiceCentral recognition engine requires no training, the company says.

Fonix lists the following new features in version 3.0:
        • Send email messages with a voice note
        • Reply to email with a speech interface. The reply message is an audio recording .WAV file.
        • Dial contacts with integrated VoiceDial software
        • Simplified menus for easier and quicker access
        • More accurate speech recognition using less CPU time
        • Improved text-to-speech quality
The package is currently available in English, with Italian, French, German, Spanish and Japanese coming soon according to Fonix. VoiceCentral is downloadable from the company's website for just under $30. A free trial download is also available from the same page.
