Kontron has put together a new evaluation kit for developers of fanless miniature devices incorporating its business card-sized X-board PXA "computer on module." The tiny single-board computer (SBC) is built around an Intel PXA255 XScale processor, and the development kit includes Windows CE pre-installed.

According to Kontron, the kit contains everything needed to begin an evaluation: an ATX-compatible power supply, a 5.7-inch color TFT display with background lighting and a JILI display adaptor, and a baseboard to simplify system development.

The baseboard includes the following interfaces:
        • 3 USB
        • LAN
        • 4 serial ports
        • 2 PCI slots for expansion cards
        • AC97 Sound
        • Socket for vibration-proof CompactFlash cards
The X-board PXA, measuring 67 x 49 mm, is equipped with a 200MHz or 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 processor and has a power consumption of just 1.5 W, Kontron says. The board includes 64MB DRAM and 32MB Flash memory.

Kontron says the X-board PXA is ideal for systems where "space is tight or when small displays that are both functional and attractive are needed." Examples cited include airplane cockpits, elevators, living spaces, and mobile devices.
