The 1- and 2-inch models include what Sokkia calls its Independent Angle Calibration System (IACS), which provides "extremely reliable angle measurement with unprecedented stability." Only one visible red laser beam is used for measuring and pointing, which is said to make it easy for users to confirm the exact measurement point visually.
Touted features of Sokkia's "RED-tech EX" technology include:
- Fast, accurate measurement of building corners
- Measurements through fences
- Range extension via prisms or reflective sheets
- One prism extends range to 19,680 feet
- Three prisms extends to max range of 32,800 feet
The SET X's processor is not specified by Sokkia. However, the device is said to have 64MB of internal memory, of which more than 1MB is available for data. Memory can be expanded using the SET X's CompactFlash slot, which accepts cards up to 1GB in size, according to the company.
Other hardware features include a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and 32 backlit alphanumeric keys. USB, an RS-232 interface, and Bluetooth are also included, and Sokkia says the SET X can transmit data via cell phones using the company's SFX (Sokkia Field-info Xpress) technology.
The device comes with two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, each said to provide 12 hours of operation, for a total of 24 hours of battery life. An optional external battery adds 35 more hours of operation to this, so the SET X can operate for days at remote job sites.
Sokkia says its Windows CE-based data collection software increases functionality with a graphical user interface, customizable settings, and an easy-to-use workflow. A status bar constantly displays the status of the instrument, providing information such as battery life, target type, measurement mode, and tilt.
