New features touted in Afaria 5.5 include:
- Capability to initially provision devices over wireless networks
- Expanded device security features
- Remote control for Windows Mobile devices
- Expanded Patch Manager capabilities
Afaria Security Manager has also been updated to include FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption modules, allowing corporations to satisfy security directives and compliance requirements while extending sensitive data to mobile professionals, Sybase says. And, the package has been integrated with OneBridge 5.5, Sybase's enterprise email and applications environment for mobile workers.
New features in OneBridge 5.5 reportedly will include:
- Interoperability with Afaria Security Manager allows users to encrypt or lock down mobile devices, yet leave the device available to receive push notifications from the server
- Supports "more than 130" mobile devices
- Hosted DMZ (de-militarized zone) proxy server environment allows easy evaluation, without opening firewall ports or staging data outside the firewall
Joe Owen, VP of engineering, stated, "Now OneBridge [can] take advantage of Afaria features such as device-side and server-side security, in addition to on-the-fly encryption and decryption."
AvailabilityBoth Afaria 5.5 and OneBridge 5.5 are expected to be available "later in Q4," according to Sybase.
