C & M Communicaton and Multimedia has released a new version of its real-time tracking system for GPS-enabled Pocket PC phones. In addition to displaying a device's location on a conventional GIS (geographic information system) map image, RealTrack Mobile version 1.5 is also compatible with Google Earth imagery, according to the...

        company.

RealTrack Mobile consists of server software running on an Internet-connected PC that communicates with Pocket PC phone clients over GPRS. The server tracks client devices in real-time and displays their locations on a GIS map or Google Earth image, according to C & M. If a client moves through an area of no or low GPRS coverage, it will automatically reconnect when coverage returns.

One target for RealTrack, according to C & M, is fleet management applications. For example, the server can maintain a history of the locations of client device, which can later be used for route analysis and optimization. The GPRS connection can also be used for inexpensive communication with the client devices.
