T-Mobile has announced a new mobile multi-function communication terminal running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. The MDA IV "mini-laptop" features two cameras, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a unique swiveling VGA resolution display, according to the company.

The device is based on a 520 MHz Intel XScale processor, but other technical details remain sketchy.

From the wireless communications perspective, T-Mobile claims that the MDA IV is the first Windows Mobile device that supports the combination of GPRS, WLAN, and 3G UMTS technologies. Its triband GSM operates at 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz. Bluetooth and USB are also included.

The swiveling VGA display can be used in landscape mode in conjunction with the built-in QWERTY keyboard, roughly mimicking the style of a laptop. The display can also be swung around to hide the keyboard, after which the device functions in the manner of a PDA with a portrait mode touchscreen.

The two integrated digital cameras can record still photos and video, and can also be used for video telephony.

The MDA IV is expected to be available in Europe this summer, according to T-Mobile, which has not divulged plans to introduce it into the North American market. However, sources report that the device is manufactured by Taiwanese ODM (original design maker) HTC, so there's a good chance a US carrier will rebrand and use it in the US, as Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint did with the MDA III.
