        TeleVideo unveils 1GHz LCD thin client based on Crusoe, XP Embedded

        [Updated Oct. 22, 2003] -- TeleVideo is demonstrating its speediest LCD thin client to date -- an integrated LCD terminal based on a 1GHz Transmeta 5800 Crusoe processor and Windows XP Embedded operating system -- at the Citrix iForum show this week in Orlando, Florida.

        TeleVideo says it will begin offering TeleCLIENT thin clients with the Transmeta 667MHz and 1GHz CPUs in Q1 of 2004, and evaluations are available now. The thin clients will be offered standalone, integrated with 15- and 17-inch LCDs, and with wireless and touchscreen options.

        According to John Lee, Televideo product manager, the preliminary features and specs (subject to change) of the TC8550 include. . .
        • Operating system -- Microsoft Windows XP Embedded SP1, along with Internet Explorer 6.0 and Media Player 8.0
        • Processor -- Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 1GHz CPU
        • Memory -- 256MB SDRAM and 192MB Flash
        • Display -- integrated with a LG/Phillips LCD 15-inch display; (TC8750 will be integrated with 17-in. display)
        • Works with Altiris Deployment Server
        • Includes TeleManager Management software
        • Option: ELO touchscreen
        • Option: integrated 802.11b wireless
        Three other thin client models -- the TC7040, 7540, and TC7740 -- will include Transmeta Crusoe 667MHz CPUs and will run Windows CE .NET, whereas Windows XP Embedded is used in the 1GHz Crusoe-based TC8050, TC8550, and TC8750 models.
