Want to access mainframes from your PocketPC? Develop mainframe-hosted .NET apps that deliver data to mobile workers? Aton International has updated its TN3270 terminal emulation package for Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile and Pocket PC Phone Edition, adding a soft keyboard and more.

The TN3270 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC uses the TN3270 terminal protocol to connect to IBM and other mainframes running OSes such as OS/400, CICS, VM/CMS, or MVS. The new version adds ease of use features including full screen landscape mode, new soft keyboard (pictured at right), and on the fly session switching that allows access to both mainframe and web services data without having to exit a program or reset the device. The package combines a .NET component with a user interface that looks like the screen of a TN3270 terminal. The software can be used to view mainframe data on the Pocket PC in two ways:
        • Download it directly to view mainframe data in the traditional 3270 green screen format.
        • Use the .NET component with an optional SDK to build a Smart Client application that does more than just display mainframe screens.
Aton says that TN 3270 has been certified by independent testing as meeting the requirements for the Designed for Windows Mobile logo.

TN 3270 will be available for purchase and download at $49.95 per single copy from the companys web site, and from Handango, and Pocket Gear. Discounts are available for volume purchases. Site-wide and Enterprise-wide licenses are also available directly from Aton International. Free 14 day trial software is available for download at all three locations.
