Igel Technology has rolled out its first thin client device running Windows XP Embedded. The company says the IGEL-5512 XP Premium represents the "top of the line" offering in a family of thin clients that also run Windows CE and Linux.

According to Igel, standard software components on the IGEL-5512 XP Premium include Internet Explorer 6.0 and Media Player 9, as well as Sun's Java Runtime Environment, Adobe's Acrobat Reader, and Macromedia's Shockwave Internet multimedia support. Having these applications on the client device conserves valuable server resources and network bandwidth, the company adds.

Built-in standard server-interface protocols include Microsoft RDP 5.2 and Citrix ICA 9.0, supporting deployment into Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix Presentation Server environments.
