        Thin client startup launches Windows CE models

        Swiss startup ThinCCo AG has entered the thin client market with the announcement of two devices running Windows CE 5.0. The Tisio CE90 terminal and Tisio E300 laptop come "fully equipped with all the software and utilities [needed] for efficient and productive business connections," the company says.

        Tisio CE90

        The CE90 terminal client (pictured above) is based on a mini-ITX motherboard with a 667 MHz Via C3 processor. Additional features and specifications, according to ThinCCo, include:
        • Memory -- 128 MB of DDR333. Max. capacity 1 GB
        • Display:
          • VGA out, 1600 x 1200 resolution, 32-bit color
          • Up to 64 MB shared video memory
        • Storage -- 64 MB IDE flash disk
        • I/O ports:
          • 10/100 Ethernet, RJ45
          • 4 USB 2.0, 2 front, 2 rear
          • 2 serial, 9-pin D connector
          • PS/2 keyboard and mouse
          • Parallel port
          • AC97 6 channel audio -- line in, line out, mic in
        • Dimensions -- 8.39 x 2.52 x 9.21 inches (213 x 64 x 234 mm)
        • Power -- 90 to 260 VAC, 25W typical
        Tisio CE300

        ThinCCo describes the CE300 as a "high speed all-in-one laptop-type thin client device." It runs a 1.5 GHz Via C7-M processor, and features a 15-inch screen plus 802.11b/g WiFi wireless. Additional features and specifications, according to the company, include:
        • Memory -- 512 MB DDR333/400 SODIMM; expandable to 1 GB
        • Display:
          • 15-inch TFT LCD, 1024 x 768, 32-bit color
          • Up to 64 MB shared video memory
          • VGA connector for external display to 1920 x 1400
        • Storage -- 256 MB IDE flash disk
        • I/O ports:
          • 10/100 Ethernet, RJ45
          • 3 USB 2.0
          • AC97 6 channel audio -- line in, line out, mic in
        • Expansion -- PCMCIA Type II slot
        • Wireless -- 802.11b/g mini-PCI WLAN module
        • Dimensions -- 13.1 x 10.9 x 0.94~1.30 inches (333 x 276 x 24~33 mm)
        ThinCCo also offers a "full featured" device management tool to control, maintain, and configure the Tisio thin clients. Device Manager uses HTML to perform its functions rather than protocols such as FTP or UDP. This means it can be operated from any PC or similar device equipped with an Internet browser that supports Java, according to the company.

        The Tisio CE90 is now available at the company's online store for $234. An evaluation unit can be requested here.
