        Thin clients boast 1GHz CPU, Windows XP Embedded

        Computer Lab International Inc. (CLI) has introduced a new high-performance thin client terminal series running Windows XP Embedded. The ET6500x and ET6510x thin clients are both based on AMD's 1GHz Geode NX1500 processor and offer up to 1GB of DRAM and 4GB of flash memory.

        The ET6510x (shown at the right) is identical to the ET6500x, but adds a PCI expansion slot that can be used for a wide variety of add-ons, such as video cards, DVI, and plug-in media cards.

        Key features and specs, as listed by the company, include:
        • CPU -- AMD Geode NX 1500, clocked at 1 GHz
        • DRAM Memory -- 256MB expandable to 1GB
        • Flash memory -- 256MB, expandable to 4GB
        • Network -- auto-sense 10/100BaseT, with wake-on-LAN capability
        • Video -- supports resolutions up to 1600x1200 in 32-bit color, 85 Hz refresh rate
        • Audio -- Full 16-bit stereo FM synthesis; stereo in/out; 8-bit mini microphone line-in
        • Other input/output ports:
          • Two RS-232C, up to 115.2K baud
          • Parallel printer
          • PS/2 keyboard/mouse
          • Four Type A USB 2.0
        • PCI expansion -- 3/4-length add-in card slot included on ET6510x
        • Physical specifications:
          • Dimensions -- 2.4 x 8.9 x 9.5 in
          • Weight -- 3.3 lb
          • Power requirements -- 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, internal power supply
          • Convection cooled, no fan
          • Regulatory compliance -- FCC Class B; UL; CE Mark; TUV
        • System software:
          • OS platform -- Windows XP Embedded
          • Remote system access protocols -- Microsoft RDP 5.5, Citrix ICA 8
          • Terminal emulations -- IBM 5250, 3270, 3151; Wyse WY-50, WY-60; DEC VT-100, VT-420
          • Device management -- CLI SNMP Administrator software, with remote shadowing and asset tracking capabilities
          • Network file transfer protocols -- TCP/IP with DNS and PPP; PXE boot
          • Web and other applications -- Internet Explorer with multimedia extensions, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM), Outlook email
        According to CLI, the devices feature a "locked down, sealed box design" that includes a "security lock slot, for high security and virus protection."

        Availability

        The ET6500x and ET6510x are immediately available, according to CLI. Standard models include a keyboard, mouse, and three-year warranty, at a starting price of $618.
