The company says that Windows CE 6.0 is "ideal" for thin client applications that require Citrix ICA, Microsoft RDP, as well as a local browser and terminal emulation support. The new OS also makes it easier to integrate and manage peripherals such as wireless adapters, smart card readers, and security devices. The end result, according to Wyse, is a thin client that provides more of a "PC-like experience."
Combined with Wyse's own firmware, Windows CE 6.0 gives users quicker boot time and increased protection against viruses and malware, the company said.
Chief Marketing Officer Jeff McNaught says he expects "enthusiastic customer response" to the advanced features of Windows CE 6.0 as it becomes "a more dominant operating system in our market."
Wyse is currently shipping Windows CE 6.0 on its
S-class family of thin clients in a "limited release," with full production expected this summer. The company adds that it will also extend support for CE 6.0 across its entire product line "within several months."
