(Click for larger view of Triton-320)Strategic Test appears to have
initially announced the Triton-320 module last October. However, at that time it was designated the "Triton-290," possibly assuming that Marvell would adopt "PXA29x" naming when Monahans processors finally shipped. Instead, Marvell, which
acquired Monahans from Intel last June, used a
PXA3xx naming scheme when it began shipping Monahans processors five months later. Prior to that, Intel had sampled the chip for several years.
The Triton-320 is the latest in Strategic Test's line of SODIMM-sized XScale modules. Earlier Triton modules include the
Triton-270, based on a PXA270 ("Bulverde") processor, and the
Triton-255 and Triton-250, based respectively on PXA255 and PXA250 ("Cotula") processors. The modules are meant to be used as macrocomponents, plugged into slots on custom baseboards in shipping product designs.
In addition to a PXA320 clocked at 806MHz, the Triton-320 has 128MB of onboard SDRAM, and 64MB of flash memory. It measures 2.6 x 1 x 0.16 inches (67.6 x 26 x 4.2 mm).

(Click to enlarge)For evaluation and development purposes, the Triton-320 module is available as part of a Triton Development Kit 4 (TDK-4). The kit includes a 6 x 4-inch baseboard that provides an SODIMM socket to accommodate the module. Other features of the baseboard are:
- UCB1400 CODEC and touchscreen controller
- CompactFlash socket
- SD/MMC socket
- 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
- USB 1.1
- 3 x RS232
- JTAG interface
- LCD and VGA connectors
- Wide range 5V to 40VDC power supply protected against in-vehicle transients
AvailabilityThe Triton-320 is immediately available as part of the TDK-4 development kit, preinstalled with either Windows CE or Linux. The kit, priced at $4,250 with a year of support and a 2-year warranty, includes carrier board schematics, a manual, cables, power supply, and a software CD with both Windows CE 6.0 and Linux 2.5.17 operating systems. OEM pricing and availability for the Triton-320 module, by itself, were not disclosed.
