Phytec and Adeneo have jointly released a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 board support package (BSP) for Phytec's tiny processor module based on a 520MHz PXA270 application processor. The BSP includes drivers for all standard interfaces available on the module, the companies said.

The 2.2 x 2.8-inch phyCORE-PXA270 module targets multimedia and high bandwidth communication applications, and accordingly includes Ethernet, CAN, audio codes, and touchscreen support. The new Windows CE 6.0 BSP enables application developers to port Windows CE based applications onto the module with "minimal development effort and risk," the companies said in a statement.

Key features of the module, as listed by Phytec, include:
        • 520 MHz Marvel XScale processor
        • 32 or 64 MB flash memory
        • 128 or 256 MB SDRAM
        • MMC/SD expansion interface
        • Onboard power management
        • 3 serial interfaces
        • 10/100 Mbit Ethernet
        • Full 2.0B CAN SJA1000 interface
        • USB Host/Client port
        • SPI GPIO expander with 28 I/O Ports
        • JTAG interface
        • I2C EEPROM
        • 2 user LEDs
        • -40 to +85 degrees C operating temp.
All I/O connections are provided on a pair of high-density 160-pin connectors on the underside of the module, which is intended to plug into custom application-specific baseboards, in a component-like manner

This is at least the second Windows CE 6 BSP that Adeneo has undertaken for Phytec. Earlier this year the company announced a BSP for Phytec's LPC3180 module based on an ARM9 chip from NXP.

        Availability

The phyCORE-PXA270 module is priced at $439 in single quantities. Phytec also offers a development kit based on the phyCORE-PXA270 that includes the module, a carrier board, an expansion board, all necessary cables, an AC adaptor, and a CD with tools and a Windows CE image. The kit is priced at $1,399, with an LCD touchpanel, and $799 without it.

The module and related development kits are available now from the company's website.
