Advantech now supports Windows XP Embedded across its Uno line of embedded computers for rugged and harsh environments. Because Windows XP Embedded is much smaller than a typical installation of Windows XP Professional, "it can be installed on a 1 GB industrial-grade CompactFlash card, which now is delivered with all new...

        UNO products," the company said.

The CompactFlash card provides enough space for Windows XP Embedded, system applications, and data backup, according to Advantech, and it also ensures reliable storage with its resistance to vibrations and shocks, and can be easily replaced for fast system upgrades.

The company says its Uno boxes all share a fanless design with flexible mounting options and excellent resistance to shock, vibration and temperature extremes. Offering a choice of a 300 MHz Geode GX1 or Intel Celeron at 300 or 450 MHz, they include a pre-configured Windows XP Embedded image "for faster development of reliable, full-featured and connected industrial control systems."
