Askarya Technologies has released a tool that developers can use to convert Pocket PC applications into "kiosk" mode operation. PocketKiosk Builder is said to allow .exe, .vb, and .NET CF applications to take complete control of the device's screen such that the user is prevented from running any other applications such as games,...

        music apps, etc.

Running on a Windows desktop, PocketKiosk Builder (shown in the above image) creates a .cab file that can be downloaded to the target Pocket PC device using ActiveSync. After the .cab file is installed, the selected application runs automatically in full screen mode.

Askarya says its kiosk mode capability offers the following benefits:
        • Achieves full employee productivity by ensuring that only a single application is running.
        • Avoids accidental device data corruption or system corruption by inexperienced users.
        • Ensures increased battery life, as only one application can be run in Kiosk mode.
        • Utilizes full screen area on Pocket PC devices having smaller display size.
PocketKiosk Builder requires a desktop running Windows 2000 or XP and ActiveSync. The resulting application runs on devices running Windows Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Edition.

An evaluation version of PocketKiosk Builder is available for download from the company's website.
