While applications like Pocket Outlook allow limited access to some information stored in these databases, only Pocket dbExplorer provides direct access, claims Phatware.
Instead of simply working with files, Pocket dBExplorer works with databases stored in a device's object store folder or in external database volumes (VOL), according to the company. The tool also enables backup and restore of one or more databases and registry settings; the resulting file can then be stored on a flash memory card or copied to a desktop PC.
Phatware says databases can be viewed, edited, rename, copied, or transferred via a device's infrared port. They can also be exported either as text or in CSV (comma-separated values) format.
New functionality in version 3.0 of Pocket dbExplorer is said to include an advanced database editor, support for CEDB and EDB database formats (on Windows Mobile 5 or later), and support for Windows Mobile Smartphones. The program is also able to compress the backup files it creates.
According to Phatware, Pocket dbExplorer is compatible with Pocket PCs or smartphones running Windows Mobile version 4.2 or later. It requires 300 KB of free storage space.
Said to be available now, Pocket dbExplorer 3.0 costs about $20. A free 30-day trial version is downloadable from the company's website,
