Jungo Software Technologies announced that its WinDriver device driver development tool now supports Windows CE .NET on the ARM PrimeXsys platforms. The support is available via version 6.03 of the tool, which is said to enable hardware access and driver development for both PCI and USB devices.

According to Jungo, the WinDriver development tool can be used to create high performance drivers for USB and PCI peripheral devices that are usable across a broad range of target environments, including Windows (desktop/server versions), Windows CE .NET, Linux, Solaris, and VxWorks. WinDriver provides graphical development environments, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), hardware diagnostic utilities, and samples to accelerate driver development, the company said.

Introduced in September 2001, the ARM PrimeXsys (prime-ex-sis) platforms are described as highly integrated, extendable platforms that are intended to incorporate all the hardware, software, and integration tools necessary to enable ARM partners to easily develop a wide range of ARM powered application-focused devices, rapidly and with minimal risk. The PrimeXsys platforms extend ARM's core offerings by adding a range of licensable open architecture platforms, which are larger, integrated building blocks that are meant to reduce development risks by providing pre-validated, application-targeted hardware sub-systems, along with related application software and operating system ports. The platforms support a range of applications including networking, wireless, automotive, and consumer entertainment.

A full-featured, 30 day evaluation version of the driver development tool is available for download, Jungo said.
