Transmeta announced the availability of the first ready-to-use Embedded System Development Kit (ESDK) for its Crusoe processor. The ESDK is a reference platform for use in evaluating the Crusoe processor and for developing embedded and mobile devices based on Microsoft's Windows CE .NET and Windows XP Embedded operating...

systems. The kit features Transmeta's 800MHz Crusoe TM5800 processor with integrated L2 cache memory, Northbridge functionality, DDR memory controller, serial ROM interface, and a 32-bit, 33MHz PCI bus interface.

To ease the task of developing apps based on Windows CE .NET 4.2, the ESDK comes with certified board support packages (BSPs), optimized device drivers, and a ready-to-use CE .NET 4.2 bootloader, according to Transmeta. The kit also features the LongRun Monitor for Windows XP Embedded, a graphical utility that displays the processor's use of power in MHz and voltage. Transmeta says the Crusoe's LongRun power management technology which dynamically adjusts voltage and clock frequency to conserve power.

The ESDK targets small form-factor products such as handheld mobile devices, Smart Displays, point-of-sale (POS) systems, thin clients, set-top boxes, and other portable media centers and consumer devices, according to Transmeta senior vice president of marketing Arthur L. Swift.

Additionally, Transmeta has designated Vibren Technologies, a Microsoft Gold-level Windows Embedded Partner (WEP), to serve as the system integrator of choice to assist Crusoe customers in developing products based on the ESDK.
